Be honest, I can take it....Warrior vs. M109R

I cant post this on the RSWarrior.com 4um, since they will be biased. I haven't said this to anyone, but I fear my brother's M109R. If he beats me, I'll never hear the end of it. I've been meaning to run it against one, but I haven't seen too many M109r's out in the streets. I always give him an excuse that my bike has not been broken in yet. But last year, I saw him smoke an R6. Has anyone heard anything, or some numbers? If I lose, I want to go down with respect, meaning less than a bike length, not 2 lengths like the R6.

All i know is your brother's M109 is an ugly bike. I believe he's got you beat on 127 ponies at 6200 rpm, and 118.6 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm. The warrior falls shot on HP, and on torque but not by much. But the bike is huge heavy and so fucking hideous. I'd have to rip it apart just to be able to look at it. It does have a 240 stock, which is nice. Here is some biased propaganda for you

Yeah, he has the 240 rear. People prefer his over mine though coz of that rear. It's pissin me off. But not when I ride my old school, people love my 78. Now I know how my friends felt like last year when I got props instead of their new bikes...If there's not much of a difference, and his bike weighs more, I might have a shot. He's also 40 lbs heavier than me. He's at stock, so we'll see.

Hey, easy does it. I happen to ride an M109. It's got nothing but great reviews. Everyone that comments on it likes the way it looks. It's a fantastic ride. About 700 lbs. stock, maybe 730+ after a few add ons. A low center of gravity, some tech from the GSXR. You're welcome to ride against it before you take on your brother. With my floor boards and controls moved forward, I've never been on a more comfortable bike.

oh yeah, that bike is really comfortable, and well balanced. For some reason it feels lighter as well. I'm not downgrading the bike, my bro owns one. I just talked a lot of sh!t and now he wants to prove me wrong. Thanks for the offer, but when I get my 600 mile overhaul and my PC tuned, I'm going for it against him.

First. I'm sure we've all heard the old adage, "...there is always someone faster...."
Well, that applies here.

By the numbers strictly, a stock M109R should be able to beat a stock Warrior. It's simple, 109ci w/ 700 lbs vs. 102 ci w/ 630 lbs.

Now, let's complicate things a bit shall we?

Once you start adding mods to the bikes, it is really anyone's game. A Warrior w/ a, ahem, 110 big bore has more of a chance against a 109 or VTX 1800 for that matter. Then again, the other bike may also have mods on it as well, so it then becomes a matter of mods/money game.

Rider size and weight also makes a difference obviously.

However, the biggest factor in determining the winner of a race is the rider. How experienced is he/she in the particular type of racing you are planning? Whether it is a straight-line drag, or carving up the twisties, it becomes less important what kind of machine you're riding vs. how well you ride what you brung....do you bang the shifts? clutchless shifting? how well do you know your power curves and shift points? How well do you launch off the line and leverage your bike's particular strengths?

So with all that said, I can say that I have given a VTX1800 several seconds head start on the tollway (he was the patron right before me). He took off like a bat outa hell, and so did I after I paid my toll. I caught up to him and passed him doing some crazy triple digit speed. Several weeks later, I ran into him on a poker run and he acknolwedged he was going all out and was very surprised to see me catch him (he called his friend right after it happened in disbelief).

Then there was another time when I witnessed another member here (ahem, u know who you r) race a 109 on the highway and led him all the way weaving through light traffic.

Then there was another time when, ahem, the same member raced another 109 and was led by the 109 by about a bike's length....the Warrior rider got a little excited and took off sideways from the start all the way thru the intersection. He may have lost the race, but he looked damn good riding moto on his Warrior! lol!

I am sure that a 109, properly ridden, would beat a Warrior ridden by someone w/ equivalent skillz. But that's the beauty of this world, nothin's the same. Heck, I'm sure on a different day I may have lost those races. It just depends on what's in the cards for you on that day.

Bottom line, go race your bro w/ a light heart. Have fun, be safe and don't worry about it. If you get beat, there will be a day you will beat him and vice versa, back n forth. At the end of the day, he is your bro. Now if you were to tell me you were racing for pink slips, then I'd say step into the HoT garage and we'll even things out abit......

Thom, good points. I've never seen anyone win a bench race.

Thats the answer I was looking for. Nicely put. But dude, I dug myself into a hole with all the sh!t talking, that I'm not sure that my bro will show mercy and stop the bragging IF I lose. Anyway, my bro and the bike are heavier, so it might not be that bad. Like I said, he smoked an R6 though. Next time we're at the light, I'm not backing down....I have to be one with the machine

If ya dug yourself that much of a hole talkin' smack either back it up or be man enough to take your lumps if you can't.

Just a litlte hint: I haven't raced one myself, but the 109 is a shaft driven bike so get him on the hole shot right off the light. It's easier to smoke the rear tire on that than the Warrior right from the get go. If he hits it too hard, the bike will climb the ring gear in the final drive and lighten the rear end. If you can pull ahead when it does this, he'll have to catch you to beat you.

Oh, btw, in a 2nd gear roll-on contest with a buddy who used to have an R6, I smoked him on my stock Warrior for a little less than 1/4 mile. If that light had been green though, he'd have caught me.

Yea, he smokes that rear each time he takes off, but he smoked it and still beat the R6...He's had some stories of him and all these jap sportbikes that he went up against. But I witnessed it and I believe it. Imagine, a big cruiser, beating a sportbike. Thats the ultimate embarassment. But I'm going to rely on the take off, to get an advantage.
Dont get me wrong man, I can take the heat, its just my ego that cant. lol
