Ready for Spring?
Spring is coming. What are you folks planning on doing to your bikes before you ride? Anything cool?
Now that it's warm enough to work in the garage, I installed new pipes and foot pegs on my Harley. I plan to change the oil and air filter on my BMW. I also plan to install a Ram mount for my GPS. I bought one from Cycle Gadgets at the bike show.

As a novitiate to motorcycles, I thought I was the only one going nuts struggling through the winter months. I am glad I am not alone!
I intend on installing the Iso grips my son gave me for Christmas, and then sneakling $$ to change the headlamp, and install footpegs on my Shadow Spirit. I have conveniently marked my J & P catalog so that my family can innocently determine what accessories I am lusting after, as both my birthday and Father's Day is coming up. Finally, I am praying for warm weather: my son is on Spring Break the middle of this month, and we want to do our own mini-Daytona Bike Week here in Chicago-land. |

I need to pick up two new tires to replace mine which have dry rotted. Also I am going to look into a windshield and some bags. Change the oil, prolly the spark plugs. Also I am signed up for the MSF class at Harper college starting at the end up April

need my battery charged ( i'll swing on by Geoffs or Thoms pad and ask for help).
Need a new rear tire- i'll ride to MCC and have them put it on Need a new front brake- I can do that in 15 minutes... Sp asides from the battery, shes ready to go. I was gonna put on some fork gators, but w/ her possibly being sold, i'll keep my mods to a minimum.... it was kinda cold this AM @ 31 degrees... dont trust illinois yet- i think we might have another snow day yet to come....

Aside from typical maintenance, I picked up a digital HID and LEDs for the BK. Not looking forward to the install since I hear taking the headlamp/gas tank apart to hide the wiring is a big PITA. However, I think the light upgrade will be worth it though based on all the HID upgrades I have done so far on other vehicles....
Hey Fil- if you want just call me to drop off your battery and I'll charge it overnight for you and let you know when it's ready...

I am just trying to keep my brain from going nuts while waiting for the salt to wash away and get the roadliner out!!!! As far as mods i have done plenty since thats the only thing i could do with the bike this winter
I did a quick detach windshield, ghost brackets with saddlebags, engine guards, highway pegs, several chrome goodies here and there. Plenty more to do but i think i am gonna break down and do the exhaust whether i put miles on the bike or not. Working on a price match right now on some pipes so if it goes through i am gonna order them. Other then that i am just hoping for rain to clean the streets off. On a side note, i am gonna fire up the 650 soon and at least take that out to get the riding bug out of my system![]() |

Change the oil. Go to the dealer to get my weeping rocker boxes fixed.
I was going to bob the rear fender, had the angle grinder out, but I don't want to lose the ability to ride two up. Was also going to swap the handlebars to straight drag bars, have some sitting in the garage, but I like to go on longer rides and don't want to be hunched over for that long. Was also thinking about custom paint... but damnit, I think I like the bike the way it is! |

This is the first winter in six years I haven't done some kind of mod's to either of my bikes. I'm either getting old or finally just plain satisfied with what I have.
After enduring my Sportster being in the black hole of Illinois HD from Aug 3rd to Oct 6th, I just want it to warm up a tad more, get a good rain to clean the salt off the streets and get to ridin' again! There wasn't even a January or February thaw this winter to get either of my bikes out and to the wash after the Toys For Tots Parade............ |

![]() As for me its going to be a rough spring. I'm taking my Professional Engineers Exam in mid April so the next month and a half are studying a good 6-8 hours a week. No big mods planned for the bike as I'm not sure what I'm going to do with her. I'm a little worried about the whole rebuilt bike thing but I don't really want to give this bike up as I found her for a great price and as a very very clean low mileage example. I did pick up a radio to put on my spare windshield but I haven't wired it up yet. I still need to fix the wiring on the Yamaha and sell her, and hopefully put that money forward into the HD or a new Jet Ski. |
