Soldier Welcome Home

Hey everyone, I have a friend whose son is coming home from Iraq/Afghanistan on Tuesday night. She was trying to coordinate with the PGR to escort him home but there is some difficulty as they have an escort for a soldier KIA on Wednesday. I am working with them in hopes of pulling this together but if they cannot do it I am in need of riders to help escort this young man and his family home. I promised his mom I would make sure her son had a welcome home. Flight is landing at 5:14 and we will be meeting at Grand and Manneheim around 4:30/5:00 and then escorting them to his home in Franklin Park. Any one interested, I would love to tell her I have the escort. Thanks everyone.

By the way, even if the PGR can make it, come out and join us, it is pretty awesome to be part of a group that does this.

I attended a welcoming home in the Rockford area today for a National Guard unit that recently returned from a 1 yr stay in Afghanistan. I took a few minutes to chat with a buddy of mine in the unit but I didnt want to take to much time away from his family

Welcome Home Randy...

I was going to go to that one, but first I could not get my GPS to program correctly, then my battery went dead so I had to jump it then I turned left instead of right and finally the car in front of me slammed on their breaks so I had to do the same. At that point I decided I was not meant to go, which turned out to be for the best as my nephew's daughter was born yesterday (5 weeks early) and he needed me there. Hope you can make it Tuesday. Got word that the PGR is setting up having the police and fire department lead the escort and that the USO will walk the parents to the plane to welcome him. I will get the PGR link and post it here with all the meet-up info.

Hero's welcome home for Franklin Park soldier - WGN

Here is the link to the video, Franklin Park went all out for him, they had the hook and ladder trucks on his street with the ladders extended and a flag hanging between them on his block. There was a police fire escort from the cell phone lot all the way down Mannheim. I have to say, it was the most amazing thing I have ever been a part of.
