600 Mile Service - Warranty Issue?
So in preparation for the upcoming 600 miles on Sookie, I was wondering how many of you would take your bike in to the dealer for their first 600 mile service?
I tend to not take my bike in if I do not have to. Too often I find scratches that were not there before, and just don't feel like paying $xxx.xx for an oil change...I can do that myself...I have already checked all the bolts, tension in the cables, and topped off all fluids...even set the suspension the way I like it. What else is involved in the dealer's 600 miles service plan? I have heard some say that your factory warranty will not be honored if you do not bring your bike in for it's 600 mile service. Is this true?

I'll race you to 600 mi... I'm at 450 as of yesterday.
The BK is actually the first NEW vehicle - of any kind - I've ever bought, so I've never dealt with the 600 mi service. I have heard the same about warranties not being honored, but I've never dealt with it personally. I have also heard of some horror stories with Suzuki's warranties and Zuk not playing nice with their customers. I think the key is having a dealership that's good to work with and will go to bat for you if need be. As far as the warranty is concerned, I think if something went wrong, they'd have to prove that it was a result of missing/not performing the 600 mile service that caused whatever failure happened. I think that'd be a pretty hard task - especially if you can document having gone through the bike yourself, topping off fluids, changing oil, etc. I'll probably pony up and pay for the 600mi service personally, not that it's nothing I couldn't do myself. I'm just getting lazy. LOL. Side note - I changed the oil yesterday on the BK at about 325miles... I was AMAZED at how dirty it was already. Also, New thing I learned... change the oil while the bike is HOT. I waited just long enough that the head pipes wouldn't burn me. The Owner's Manual says the bike will take 3300ml of oil with a filter change. I put 3700 in mine to FULL -and not because it was low before the oil change. It just drains that much better with the oil hot... *INSERT "HOT STUFF CAN BURN YOU" DISCLAIMER HERE*

hey Timbo,
do me a favor and tell me the part number of the oil filter if you used a Suzuki oem filter. I think I might have a filter on the shelf from my Busa days... Also, when are you going synthetic? PS - you'll probably get to 600 before me, but I took a nice ride to Starved Rock yesterday. I put about another 170 miles on her yesterday! ![]()

I couldn't swear to it, BUT, it should be the same filter. Suzuki has used the same filter on 99% of their bikes in the past 10 years at least... When I bought it from Fox Valley Honda on Sat, the guy at the counter just grabbed it without even looking at the number when I said "Suzuki..." Oneida Suzuki has it listed as 16510-03G00-X07 (same as the busa for all years - also, I don't think the "-X07" really matters) I'll probably go Synthetic after about 3000 miles or so (with oil changes at 300, 600, & 1000). I've been doing a break-in that falls somewhere between the "ride it hard" and the factory break in. I didn't really plan to do it that way, but: 1) streets around here don't really lend themselves to the "ride it hard" break-in (and, I don't think a police officer is going to care about your break in on a hard 3rd gear run...). 2) I definitely haven't stuck to the factory safe 5000rpm limit either... If there's anyone out there that can resist the urge to open this bike up, I think they're riding the wrong motorcycle, LOL.

Hey Thom
What's your warentee on the bike? 1 year? If so, I'd just do all the stuff …myself and keep all the dated recipts. That's what saqcQ and I did @ my place. Looked over the bolts, oil change and we're in business. Did the same w the v star new but I actually purchased the filter and oil from the dealer so they had a record of my purchase. In the case of the C14, if I were to buy it new and it has a stock 36 month warentee plus a very affordable additional 3 year for $350, I'd go ahead and do it @ the dealer- that's a long warentee and assuming that I won't sell the bike ( since I have a short life on bikes in my garage) I want to make sure everything Is up to spec and documentation...... As a side note- wife tried to send me back to my parents house as she explained to them that I was broke- when I talked, nothing but blabber came out and I wouldn't listen or pay attention....parents told her it was tough luck since it was a buy @ your own risk situation....

Turned 604 as I pulled in the driveway last night.
Kinda funny there's a flashing "m" that comes up on the dash that says you need maintenance. It's like the "Oh man, a flashing light! I need to take this to the dealership and give them my money" light... I'm sure Suzuki didn't think of that at all when they programmed it... ![]() Hey Fred - What kind of other maintenance do they usually perform on a 600mi service? Is it just a really overpriced oil change and fluid check? or do they actually go through the bike?

Just had another thought about this... (as I'm sitting here without bike for the 600 mi. service)
I have read about a technical service bulletin for all BK's and some K8 Busas covering the clutch. I'm going to make sure that they do this to mine when it's in there. (I have a sneaky suspicion that they didn't take the bike off the showroom floor to perform the TSB... ) SB # 199 I dunno how TSB's relate to warranties (if they even do?)... but It's something that I'd want taken care of. ![]()

Hey Timbo,
do me a favor and let me know if they give you a hard time about this TSB.. It seems easy enough to do myself with the first oil change so I'm not sure if I want to bring my bike in and risk the scratches/hassle, etc... Have you experienced any of the symptoms described? I had a couple of instances where it was difficult going into 1st gear from Neutral while at a standstill. I thought it was just the bike being new and needing to break in...I just rolled the bike a little and shifted....How about you?
