Feeler - Any Interest?
After some gentle pushing from friends and family, I decided to see if there is any real interest out there....so who better to check w/ than friends and folks you know right? Yup, so I'm open to your thoughts please!
Some of you know I have been studying Martial Arts for most of my life. After studying a variety of disciplines (Kung Fu, Judo, Karate, TKD, Hap Ki Do, etc.), I found a deep passion with Hap Ki Do. Over the past several years, I studied HKD intensely being both student and teacher. I have taught students from a variety of ages and background ranging from 4 year olds to adults in law enforcement. I am also proficient with many weapons, specialized and common. I was wondering if there is any interest in receiving personal training for self defense? If you have received private tutoring in anything before, you know it is very different from attending a class with other students. This would be one-on-one training, tailored at the students pace and needs. All questions answered and individual challenges focused on... I have been approached to open up a school before, but prefer to keep it much more personal and small. I learned best that way and still believe it is the best way to learn. It may not make the most business sense, but this is more a passion than my source of income.... If you have an interest, I am willing to meet w/ you and give you a private consultation (1st one free). I am flexible enough to come out to you or your choice of facility (reasonable distance) as I do not have the room to host at this moment. All we really need at this moment is about a 10'x10' space clear of furniture. Or, if you have a Lifetime Fitness membership as I do, we could meet there ideally. So what are your thoughts? Questions? Interest?

Good luck with this venture. I don't know too much about Hapkido, but I've used some grip breaking techniques from it in my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training. Pretty effective stuff.

I really like it Thom and think you will make a great teacher. Honestly if/when I do something like that it would be more for fitness/defense then anything else.
I had a lifetime fitness membership and wife has been bugging me to go back. But until I make some more money I wont be able to afford any of these things. I mainly posted so people understand the fitness bonus this comes with. Sure defense is fantastic.. but its also great to keep in shape ![]() |

Thom, personal training is a great idea. Though, not well verse on HKD, I'm very familiar with JKD, and been training with my brother. What's been working, as far as getting people interested in personal training, is that we workout at LA Fitness and people notice what we are doing. It generates interest and possibly clients to train. He's very much like you, and it's more about the passion than the money. He now have a few people that he's privately training on a weekly basis and lovin the physical cardio or defense aspect of the trainining. Good luck, bro.

Sounds very interesting, Thom!
Though I don't really have any experience in martial arts, but I have thought about trying to learn something... Don't have a preference in any particular type of MA; just would like to learn some skills, more for self defense purpose.... Don't think I could commit to this right now though, as I got myself involved into some other afterwork activity for next few months. But I would like to talk about this sometimes later..... Good luck in meantime....
