Patrick Racing BAK for Warriors
by Darkside 06-18-2007, 12:59 PM

I received some good tips on speeding up the warrior from Thom. It was the Patrick Racing BAK costing about $220 plus. After consulting with my bro on this purchase, he advised that we can buy these parts from Murray's for waaay less.
Can anyone advise me of what the PR Bak consists of and I will just get them from Murray's and report back on the performance difference. From what I saw on their website they were just filters, clamps and a hose.

Here is some info about this on rswarrior.com:
http://www.rswarrior.com/forums/topi...er,part,number

I haven't seen PR kit, so I don't know of what it consists, but I used RC-1290 K&N filters, and Spectre 3992 filters vent hoses.
I also bought DynoMax 42381 U-shaped pipe to make stacks.... I didn't think about buying rubber sleeves to connect the pipes to t-bodies, so I just pulled out the hoses from stock air box and cut them to fit...

You can get the rubber pieces to attach them to the throttle bodies from a hardware store probably in the PVC isle. PR BAK is different than the churchkey's, they have CNC machined tapered velocity stacks that have been dyno tested. I had some guy on rswarrior.com machine them for me and Thom. I am not sure if he does it anymore.

PR = more top end hp
Church = more bottom end torque

I am a fan of the PR kit, considering the church kit is exactly the same design as the current stock warrior air box. (take a look inside if you don't believe me).

Hey, thanks for the tip guys. I will certainly look into this. I'm trying to do mods but not for the cash they want these days.

If you look up "home made bak" on the rswarrior site, you'll get all kinds of information about what people have done, what parts were used and the results.

All I can say is that I went the route of a homemade BAK initially and now I have the PR BAK. Fact is, like Eric stated, the PR BAK has two aluminum velocity stacks that are engineered to speed up the intake air as it enters into the throttle bodies. Sure you can get some filters and PVC, rubber elbows, etc. I think they may even work for a short while. But for the long term, you needn't worry about the rubber hoses collapsing (as in my case) or whatever the backyard engineering shortfalls may do to the engine. I am all for the DIY mods, but I know when and where to use the mods that have been developed and tested by the pros. LOL - your bro probably doesn't want you to beat his 109 that why he's proposing the DIY!

I chose the PR over the Churchkey b/c IMHO the Warrior has more to gain increasing hp than torque. It is already a torque monster. Heck I dynoed at 128 rwtq (on my DIY, collapsed intake). Having more hp just helps the Warrior be a much better and more rounded bike in the power category.

Just remember, the Warrior engine tends to shake alot, get incredibly hot, and due to its size suck an incredible amount of air under WOT. Do it right, do it tight.....

Dark, what are you doing as far as relocating sensors that will come off the air box? Do you have something ready for that?

I hear ya Paul - it ain't cheap. But be careful, you spend $80 on a DIY and do it a couple of times and you're already there. Churchkey sells his VBAK for $185 + shipping I think. Folks buy the air intake kits b/c they like the looks of it and they go for a couple of bills as well. Heck, the speedstar ais scoop goes for $149 and it is just cosmetic. The speed* scoop on the right goes for something like $125 as well.
What's the old saying? "You gotta pay if you wanna play..."
